About Us

Who We Are

Julian and Neal at Yule 2008We’re a gay couple from Columbus, Ohio.  We met in the summer of 2008 and moved in together in January of 2009.  We have many interests in common such as sewing, crafts, arts, travel, cooking and music.  We’re also very different.   You can learn more about each of us on our individual “About” pages.

We’re currently working on building a business from our many interests.  We create a lot of crafts and sew.  We’re featuring some of our products on our online store here and will add links to other online stores are we build them and firm up plans.

Why We Blog

There are many reasons why we started this blog, why we relaunched it and why we’re maintaining it now.  Here are some of them (in no particular order):

To Document Our Life Together

Part of the purpose of this blog is to make a record of our life together.  It’s like a digital scrapbook–a place for us to collect our memories of the places we’ve traveled together, the things we’ve done and the good (and bad) times that we’ve had.  We’re working together to find new ways of making a living, to try to start and sustain a business.  We want to make a record of that too.  And share ideas with others who are doing (or have done) the same thing.

Julian and Neal KissTo Be Visible As a Gay Couple

The GLBT community has made tremendous strides towards equality but there’s still a lot to do.  We’ve attended rallies and worked to support the equality of our community but the most meaningful thing, we believe, is for GLBT people to be out and visible.  It’s much easier to discriminate against “those people” but much harder when you put a face on them, when it’s your siblings, your co-workers, or your neighbors.

To Share Some of Our Many Interests and Hobbies

We have many interests and hobbies.  Some we share and some we pursue independently.  We like to talk about our interests and trade information, tips and resources with others.  Hopefully this blog will help with that.

To Promote Our Art, Business and Ourselves

As mentioned earlier, we’re working to build a business and a different way of looking at the fine (and difficult) art of making a living.  We have a small “shop” on this blog with some of our items and experiments.  We’re both available to write, speak and consult.  There will be shameless plugging.

As a Soapbox

We have causes that we believe in.  These are important to us and include things like sustainable (and safe) food production, support local business, rebuilding American manufacturing and so on.
